The primary food of bed bugs consists of blood from warm-blooded animals, like the blood of humans. Due to the distasteful dietary preference of this pest, you have to make sure that the bed bug would not be able to dine on your blood. Nevertheless, if your pest control measures may have been lacking, it is possible that a bed bug may have already sneaked into your residence without you being aware of it.
You may wonder what the signs and symptoms of a bed bug infestation are. There are 2 common signs, and they are as follows:
1. Bed Bug Rash
Itching is the first sign of a bed bug rash. You won\’t be able to see the rash at first but it will definitely feel itchy. It is itchier than a mosquito bite, and the itch can only be felt after a long time (minimum of an hour). In some cases, the rash comes out only a few days or weeks later.
A bed bug rash has a small, round and red bump that looks more swollen than a mosquito rash. Sometimes, the rash looks similar to a bite mark in sequence. If you suspect a bed bug rash, a few days of examining it wouldn\’t hurt. Long-term itching is caused by the rash, lasting for days. A bed bug rash also doesn\’t heal as fast as mosquito bites. They remain swollen for weeks at a time.
2. Bed Bug Smell
Next thing to look for is bed bug smell. What smell do they give off?
Bed bugs release a musty, obnoxious smell, so a home where there\’s plenty of bed bug infestation smells of it. Under the headboard and mattresses are common places where they can be smelled. Sofas are also sometimes infested with bed bugs. If they have cracks, check if they\’ve got bed bug odor.
You have to call pest control experts immediately if you encounter bed bugs in your home. Afterwards, you should execute effective pest control measures to stop bed bugs from re-invading your house.
