Located at the entrance of the Gulf of Mexico, The Republic of Cuba is an Archipielago consisting of the main island: Cuba, the Isle of Youth and over 4000 islets and cays.
Because Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean, it has many attractions that separate it from the rest of the countries in the area: beautiful beaches, colourful Flora and Fauna, lush vegetation and interesting geographic features. The history and Culture Cuba enjoys are certainly one of its main attributes.
Among the best beach locations in Cuba -Varadero and Guardalavaca – stand out from the crowd for its pristine white sands and turquoise waters. The Cayo islands around main land are famous for its virginity and quietness. Cayo Largo, Cayo Coco, Cayo Santa Maria and Cayo Levisa are just some of the best beach destinations in Cuba.
There is much more other than just beaches. Cuba was for many centuries the “Key to The Americas” and as a result its cultural and historic heritage is immeasurable. Its architecture is very striking. A mingle of Colonial and modern styles can be appreciated in most of the main cities in Cuba.
The Cuban geography is as diverse as its History and Culture. Among the most striking landscapes are Viales Valley, Escambray Mountains, Sierra Maestra, Cienaga de Zapata (Zapata Swamp), Valle de Yumuri in Matanzas.
A must see location is Havana – The Capital of Cuba. Recommended as the starting point of your itinerary, Havana certainly is the most cosmopolitan of the Cuban provinces. No wonder Novel Prize Ernest Hemingway found permanent residence for over 20 years in this vibrant city.
Other provinces and towns worth visiting are Trinidad and Baracoa (these two are the oldest villages in Cuba that still preserve an entirely colonial architecture). Santiago de Cuba is another important location mainly from the historic point of view. It was from Santiago de Cuba where all the uprisings, independent movements and revolutions started in Cuba.
To know the real Cuba you need to combine few of this location. They all offer something unique and exciting. It is important to research a bit on internet or brochures for information about Cuba. Getting in touch with a Cuban specialist in crucial in order to make the most out of you experience in Cuba. Multi centre holidays are highly recommended and the do not come necessarily expensive. In some cases they are even cheaper than single centre.
